One word: Cardamom

I was flying solo this month, while Erica tackled black diamond runs and epic powder up in Tahoe (lucky girl). But not to be dissuaded, I set out to back some Florentine cookies and Panna Cotta for the Oscars. Never mind that it was just me and Will and Will's work....

I've made Florentine cookies a number of times before (something about that caramelly-oat-chocolate combination that is just so tasty), and I've tried my hand at Panna Cotta as well. So much for the "daring" part of this adventure. I actually disliked this Florentine recipe - I couldn't get the dough texture to behave itself, and they didn't spread as nicely as past recipes. Moreover, thanks to running out of parchment paper, I managed to get them quite stuck to the cookie tray. Whoops.

But the Panna Cotta, I decided to throw in some cardamom pods, and hello, success. It just adds a lovely undertone to the creaminess. Highly recommended.

Apologies about the lack of photographs and short post this time around, our lovely readers - without my fearless partner, it was hard to bake and document at the same time. And the Oscars are just getting to the good stuff :-) Here's hoping we can find some time in March!

The February 2011 Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Mallory from A Sofa in the Kitchen. She chose to challenge everyone to make Panna Cotta from a Giada De Laurentiis recipe and Nestle Florentine Cookies.
